The battle for high-end smartphones has been ever increasing from a number of manufacturers in India. Right from Chinese phone makers to American manufacturers, this battle has brought in a host of features and killer specifications at affordable prices, considering the equipment list on these phones. But, the war of phones isn’t restricted to high-end models, it also extends to mid-range as well as entry-level smartphones. However, what has been missed out for a long time is the presence of a feature 4G phone.
A feature 4G phone is essentially a simple phone, but, has almost every feature that is present in a touchscreen smartphone. Most of the users in this category use their phones for basic functionalities such as calling or messaging. Rarely would such a user need Whatsapp or check updates on social media. There isn’t a need for which it is required pertaining to their lifestyle. In this battle of feature 4G phones, Jio already announced their entry with the Jio Phone with a host of features found on smartphones. Airtel too is prepping up for a feature phone in this segment, according to a confirmation by an industry expert to ET.

4 days agoMicromax has also announced that it will bring in a feature 4G phone in the price range of Rs 2,500. However, the Indian electronics giant will first see the market reaction of the phones introduced by Reliance and Airtel. Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax, said, “I have yet to see any impact of JioPhone. When they are here, we will take a call.”
Considering the fact that most users in this segment have very little of no use of 4G phones, contemplations will arise. That said, it would only be dependent on the acceptability of these feature phones in a price-sensitive market. The end result, however, would be more features for aggressive pricing.
